Great Highway and Ocean Beach Reconstruction Plan
San Francisco, CA
The Great Highway Reconstruction at Ocean Beach is a National ASLA Honor Award winning design that enhances a two-mile stretch of scenic waterfront highway between Golden Gate Park and the San Francisco Zoo. The naturalistic design includes a linear ocean-side park with a curvilinear trail and seawall promenade. The project opens up ocean views from the highway, provides a defined edge to the beach, and prevents windblown sand from traveling into the adjacent neighborhoods. In addition, a curved sea wall with overlooks and stairways increases access to the beach and connects to the urban fabric of surrounding neighborhoods.
