Forbes Boulevard Streetscapes

South San Francisco, CA

The Forbes Boulevard Streetscape is designed and was completed as two separate projects for the biotechnology corporation, Genentech. The first project involves planting within the median along Forbes Boulevard, and the second project involves planting at the edges.

MPA Design was pleased to take the lead in designing 0.7 miles of streetscape along Forbes Boulevard from Allerton Avenue to DNA Way. The design goal is to create a natural landscape with native planting that is in keeping with the feel and overall character of Genentech’s campus. Short grasses and perennials are used for pedestrian/vehicular safety, and are used with different colors and textures to bring vibrancy. California oaks and Monterey cypress trees are placed along the streetscape to bring vertical interest as you drive down Forbes Boulevard. With poor soils throughout the site, careful attention to detailing the tree planting insures a thriving landscape.
