MPA provided design services for this 4.3 acre neighborhood park in Saratoga at an accelerated schedule. MPA presented design work to a task force of City of Saratoga Department of Public Works, Parks Commission, and Neighborhood Task Force members, followed by full presentations of design development and contract document work to the Parks Commission and City Council. Cost estimates were given at each presentation to ensure that the project would remain within budget.
The design is centered around a central meadow and preserves many of the old field orchard trees and native Coast Live Oaks. The plan also includes tot and youth play areas, a parcourse, and pedestrian and bicycle trail systems. The design also connects the S.R. 85 pedestrian over-crossing across the frontage to the Blue Hills Elementary School and includes two tennis courts, horseshoe pits, volleyball, picnic facilities, seating, security lighting, and a curvilinear planting scheme of native plants that reflect the vegetation of the nearby Santa Cruz mountains.
